"a solid, driven band with a knack for big melody" Thanks to the BBC for this Oxegen review:
BBC Across The Line at Oxegen 2011
Vodaphone Stage, Friday, 2.45pm
Describe in a Tweet: Channeling the spirit of Bono.
What happened: There has been a lot of talk about The Plea, given their seemingly meteoric rise from nowhere to the second stage of Ireland's largest festival. Given that they also appeared on the bill for the recent Ash Irish tour its clear that someone 'up there' likes them. To a large extent, we can see why. They're a solid, driven band with a knack for big melody. 'The Miracle' proves why its been bothering playlists of Irish radio of late, while later on 'Staggerers Anthem' is exactly that. a good old fashioned closer, rising from acoustic to epic over the course of six minutes or so.
Crazy In Love: Every few years a band like this catches the public's imagination and compels them into the stratosphere. Is this the band? On the evidence of these songs, quite possibly. The producers of next season's Grey's Anatomy should be on standby.
Why Dont You Love Me: The comparisons to U2 hold up quite often. This is not band wrestling for the soul of new experimental music. If your teeth curdle at the thought of Oasis et al, then turn away now, this is not the band for you"

"Bruce Lee says, "you point a finger to the moon, don't look at the finger, or you'll miss all that heavenly glory".
John Lennon says, "you know that your cat has nine lives, but you've only got, one and a dogs life aint fun.."
Brendan Behan says "fuck the begrudgers, everybody gets a death kiss, when I go I'm gonna kiss the fuck out of deaths sister, make her weep and cry"

Artist Of The Week on Songward
"The Plea are the brothers Doherty, Denny and Dermot from the small town of Ballyliffen, County Donegal who plied their trade busking on the streets of London, before moving to Boston, where by day they worked on building sites and by night our dynamic duo played the city’s bustling, Irish pub circuit. They spent a year in Minnesota after an American major label funded an album recorded in a big budget studio, but it never saw the light of day.
So in 2009, back in Ballyliffen, the brothers brought in drummer Gerry Strawbridge and bassist Paul Toland, wrote a batch of new songs and posted them on their MySpace page. Interest from labels was immediate, but one offer in particular intrigued them. The founders of legendary Belgian dance label R&S Records were so impressed by the songs and after lengthy discussions on Skype they signed the band and became their first ever rock signing.
The band have just finished recording their debut album with Chris Potter (The Verve, The Rolling Stones, U2) which will be released later this year, but in the meantime open your heart up to The Plea."

Dermot's Playlist
(Note that Dermot's third choice, Bob Dylan's "It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry" is not available on YouTube, it would've been after Jerry Lee Lewis)

Denny's Playlist
OASIS "SHOCK OF THE LIGHTNING"
This song and video for me is pure fucking rock n roll, probably the best rock n roll song I've heard in years, Oasis at their very best.
THE DOORS "THE CRYSTAL SHIP"
One of my favourite Doors songs, peaceful, meaningful, beautiful, great relaxed video, great vocal, great band.
ELVIS "WAY DOWN"
I fucking love this song, recorded not long before his death. Apparently recorded when he had a bad flu, but always the perfectionist it doesn't show, the king - what more can i say.
THE POGUES "IF I SHOULD FALL FROM GRACE WITH GOD"
This for me is a drinking song with fantastic lyrics, full of energy with a message just like the band.
LEONARD COHEN "THE FUTURE"
I first heard this song on the soundtrack to Natural Born Killers, it's pure poetry; "give me absolute control over every living soul and lie beside me baby that's an order."
BOB DYLAN "THINGS HAVE CHANGED"
Great song, great video, I love the sarcasm, Bob being Bob, job done.
THE BEATLES "FREE AS A BIRD"
The Beatles finishing off a John Lennon song, and of course doing it flawlessly, great video too.
THE SMITHS "GIRLFRIEND IN A COMA"
Something everyone can relate to, I think.
U2 "WAKE UP DEAD MAN"
Another classic from U2, perfect for a hangover to the sound of a can opening.
JOHN LENNON "GOD"
Nothing to say, to me this is perfect.
THIN LIZZY "WHISKY IN THE JAR"
The first song that ever gave me goosebumps, I haven't heard too many since that have.

If Elvis Was On Twitter
Would he wear the jumpsuit as he typed ?
Would he give away Cadillacs to everyone that followed him ?
Would he sign off with #IHaveLeftTheBuilding ?
If he was, I would simply ask him where he went.
And when the hell he was coming back.
Den
p.s. You can follow Elvis on twitter here !

Praise Be featured in NME's Best Downloads This Week!
We are featured alongside The White Stripes, The Strokes, Pendulum, James Blake and Noah And The Whale in NME's Daily Download!!
"This Irish rock band have drawn comparisons to U2, with frontman Denny's vocals sounding an awful lot like Bono's. You can download 'Praise Be' (the band's "warm up" track to their first proper single due out this March) below. The song was recorded during sessions the band recorded with Chris Potter (who's previously worked with Blur, The Verve, and U2 themselves)."
