BBC Across The Line at Oxegen 2011
Vodaphone Stage, Friday, 2.45pm
Describe in a Tweet: Channeling the spirit of Bono.
What happened: There has been a lot of talk about The Plea, given their seemingly meteoric rise from nowhere to the second stage of Ireland's largest festival. Given that they also appeared on the bill for the recent Ash Irish tour its clear that someone 'up there' likes them. To a large extent, we can see why. They're a solid, driven band with a knack for big melody. 'The Miracle' proves why its been bothering playlists of Irish radio of late, while later on 'Staggerers Anthem' is exactly that. a good old fashioned closer, rising from acoustic to epic over the course of six minutes or so.
Crazy In Love: Every few years a band like this catches the public's imagination and compels them into the stratosphere. Is this the band? On the evidence of these songs, quite possibly. The producers of next season's Grey's Anatomy should be on standby.
Why Dont You Love Me: The comparisons to U2 hold up quite often. This is not band wrestling for the soul of new experimental music. If your teeth curdle at the thought of Oasis et al, then turn away now, this is not the band for you"
